Literacy and Numeracy in the Pukeko Hub

Here's what our Literacy and Numeracy will be consisting of this term:

We will be starting the term by getting underway with our reading and books will be coming home for your child to read to you every day. Please ensure that books are put back in your child's reading folder so that they have them to use in class the following day. On a Friday we collect them in so that they are available for other teachers who may need them the following week. Remember to sign the Home Learning Book if you have listened to your child read.

This term for Writing we will continue to develop the children's understanding of recounts as well as writing procedures. There is always a focus on spelling which is strengthened through practising spelling words at home and our phonics sessions after lunch Monday to Thursday.

We will begin this term by building on our number knowledge and addition and subtraction problem solving strategies. The children will be solving authentic word problems which will support them to apply their knowledge in real life. We will work in flexible groupings so the children can share their knowledge and understandings with each other. Towards the end of the term we will be focusing on measurement. We will be learning to compare the duration of events and to tell the time to the hour and half hour using analogue clocks.
